Production Blog
Hello again! It's your favorite student back again with another blog for the day.
To continue on the music video experience. We feature a couple shots on the roof of the Galleria mall. Now this was our prized moment honestly. The idea for this had been in our minds since day one and we'd been thinking about where and when to do it forever. Once we found a way to access the roof it was a done deal from there. Our first scene is actually on the roof. With an establishing shot of the city that then zooms out to me and Conner on the roof. To add some flair to this shot we implemented our prop money. The money at such a high place shows a feeling of supremacy. Being almost "on top of the world" which correlates perfectly to the song's title "Gods Plan." There was discussion amongst the group to use this location in the closing shot. With ideas of throwing the money in the air with a tracking shot + fade out. However we never ended up back at the location as we started to film other shots elsewhere. Also, at the time, the natural light started to dim with time. Therefore, it was hard to get shots at angles that would fit the shot. Every time we'd attempt to shoot for that scene Finn, Renato, Conner, and I were covered by a shadow so we were too dark to clearly depict. Not invisible, just not the appropriate lighting. Nobody wants to watch a music video while struggling to see the people in it. In the end, we finished shooting on top of the mall in about 25 minutes. With many bloopers, and some slight hurdles to climb as we repeatedly dropped the money do to the very windy conditions. The entire inspiration for this setting was Drake's shots on top on the University of Miami.
